Pony up 164 bones and you too could be playing with a new toy.

Got it from T-mobile web site with £10 a month contract. Cheapest possible overall cost over the contract period even with the whopping upfront charge.

Just have to hope I don't go over the limit on the "unlimited" internet.

[...] If you are willing to do a little bit of work you can shoehorn the latest code into a package yourself without needing any special knowledge of how to create packages. Note this will only work with programs that already have been packaged since it re-uses the old packaging info with the new code. More here [...]

I more or less agree. I don't know if the registry is the worst idea Microsoft ever came up with (with so many bad ideas I don't even know how to begin to choose the worst) but it's clearly a big mistake and one of the things that makes Windows as poor as it is. So why copy it? And using XML is just adding insult to injury.

There's nothing wrong with the conf/rc file system. It could be improved with a standard file format/API for accessing it but "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Heh, I just noticed the URL for this post says "top 15" instead of 10. I did have 15 when I originally wrote it but some problems cropped up with a couple and I decided I couldn't recommend them, so I decided to prune the list down to 10.

There is a difference between an ISP supplying equipment that doesn't support SNMP and one that gives you the kit but then disables the function. The former is being cheap, which is completely understandable, it is a business after all. The latter is just mean.
