The new channel 4 sitcom “The IT Crowd” has been released on the web a week before it airs. Typically, the links on the C4 website don’t work on linux but I found the direct link for the file in the forums and the actual file plays perfectly in mplayer. I was suprised there was no attempt at putting DRM in there. It is a lot lower quality than the typical illegal bittorrent download but it’s still perfectly watchable. No adverts in it of course
.
As the name indicates it is about the IT support department of a company. It does use the nerd stereotypes quite heavily but not in a nasty way. The premise of the show reminds me a lot of an old american show called Dweebs which I really loved. I didn’t find The IT Crowd spectacularly funny or anything but it was good enough that I’m going to stick with it for a few eps, hopefully it will grow.
